Weight Loss By Eating Smaller Meals, More Regularly

Many people try to lose weight not just by skipping breakfast, but by reducing the overall number of meals they eat. This does make sense in a way, as it reduces the amount of calories taken in.

However this is where you have to go against instinct and eat more regularly, in order to lose weight. 5 – 6 small meals a day every 2 – 3 hours is better than the 3 square meals that have traditionally been recommended. Tom Venuto’s excellent book, Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle, goes into this in detail.

Why? After each meal, insulin is released into the bloodstream, the amount depending on the size of the meal. Insulin is known as the fat storing hormone. If you keep your meals smaller, then your insulin levels will be lower, causing your body to store less fat.

The other benefit of eating more often is that metabolism speeds up, because your body is constantly processing food.

I find that I have fewer cravings as well, because my last meal was never more than a few hours ago.
I also feel more energetic if I eat smaller amounts of food regularly. Have you ever had that lethargic feeling after a big meal? Then you’ll know what I’m talking about. Gone are the days when I used to ‘crash out’ on the couch after a large dinner!
