The Law Of Attraction And Weight Loss

The Law of Attraction is all the rage at the moment. It’s basically about focusing on what you want, rather than what you don’t want. The theory is that ‘like’ attracts ‘like’.

Let’s take the example of wanting to lose weight. If you’re focusing on not wanting to be fat, then you might just attract more weight gain into your life. If on the other hand you’re focusing on that slim figure you want, then you’re more likely to attract it.

It’s also about staying grateful for what you already have. If you remind yourself about what you’re grateful for, you can’t feel anything BUT positive.

You’re no longer thinking about what you don’t have or what could be better. You’ll feel optimistic and motivated to achieve the results that you want and deserve.

The Secret To Changing Your Mindset And Losing Weight

It’s one thing to know what you need to do in terms of fostering a positive mindset, but how do you actually do it?

Most of us are aware of the physical benefits of exercise e.g. weight control, stronger heart, lungs and bones, increased muscle mass and metabolism, reduced risk of disease.

However, I believe that more attention should be focused on the psychological benefits of exercise.

It is possible to change your mindset through exercise.

Overweight people often, but not always, suffer from low self esteem. The thought of having to do the necessary physical exercise, for example strength training, may cause an automatic negative reaction.

“I can’t possibly … You’ve got to be joking, what me? Lift weights?”

I can identify with this. I felt uncomfortable when I first started to exercise. My body wasn’t used to it and I felt creaky, sore, nauseous even. I was moving my body out of its comfort zone and, boy, did it want to resist!

But I pushed through those initial hurdles and soon saw marked increases in body strength and fitness. It was soon time to increase the weights I was using in the gym!

Before I knew it, I was looking at my training plan and saying, “Wow, when I first started, I could only lift 11 pounds (5 kilos) doing this bench press. I don’t even feel that weight now. It’s like lifting a can of beans! I’ve moved up to 22 pounds (10 kilos) – that’s actually double the amount!!”

This is entirely possible, because when muscles start getting exposed to targeted exercise, such increases will be normal. Strength builds very quickly.

I noticed a smile creeping across my face. I had, on record, a ‘before’ and ‘now’ comparison, and it was there in black and white. Evidence that I had changed my body, although I couldn’t quite see it yet. But there was no doubt that I was becoming stronger, while losing body fat and weight. I wanted to keep going and my self esteem grew in leaps and bounds.

The more I did, the more I wanted to do. I was focusing on what I wanted i.e. getting stronger, leaner, fitter and more energetic, rather than what I didn’t want.

I started the snowball effect of changing my mindset and the way I felt about myself, by taking positive action, not by standing in front of the mirror murmuring affirmations or poring over self help books. Now that’s the secret to changing your state of mind!
