Let’s face it, would you rather see a speaker deliver a talk in a monotone, rooted to the spot, with a blank facial expression, remembering his or her words perfectly?
Sooner or later in your public speaking journey you will either end up using Powerpoint or be exposed to it as a listener. Whilst Powerpoint CAN be a useful tool, it can often make or break an effective presentation. In other words, it can be used for good, and it can be used for evil!
It’s tempting to dive straight into Powerpoint and start typing in an endless list of bullet points, without giving much thought to the purpose of your presentation.

The fear of speaking to groups, or social phobia, is a very common one, as shown by fear of public speaking statistics. Sometimes, just the mere thought of public speaking is enough to get most people’s hearts racing. It’s comforting to know that you’re not alone, and that most people in the audience are just relieved that it’s you and not them up there!There are many reasons why most of us have a phobia or fear of public speaking. The actual fear can be broken down into individual elements, which makes it much less intimidating. Once I discovered exactly why I had such an intense fear, it was relatively easy to learn how to overcome the fear of public speaking.
Keeping a food journal is an excellent way of watching what you eat. When you’re aware that everything that passes your lips is going to be written down, it makes you a lot more mindful. It doesn’t have to be a complicated chart or anything like that. Just a plain note book will do.
What is an effective presentation? The fundamentals of effective presentation skills start with walking from the front of the room and taking a seat amongst the audience. Not literally of course, but in your imagination.
